Does this scream false advertising or is it just social media marketing at its finest?
Scott Disick, reality TV star and ex-partner of Kourtney Kardashian accidentally offered a sneak peek into social media marketing this week when he posted the instructions from a sponsor, Boo Tea.
The post (pictured above) read “Here you go, at 4pm est, write the below. Caption: Keeping up with the summer workout routine with my morning @booteauk protein shake!” along with a picture of him posing with the tub of Boo Tea protein powder in his kitchen.
The caption was later edited to remove the sponsor instructions and to instead add the hashtag #ad.
Someone is paid to write up and send to Disick what he has to post on social media. Disick is paid for posting ($15-$20K!!!!). Disick has 15.9 million followers, some of who probably buy and consume Boo Tea products.
Advertising has been a manipulating gesture for a long time, but when it comes to social media marketing and sponsors for celebrities, are we more or less likely to believe it? Does seeing #ad on a post anywhere on social media change your feelings toward the product, the celebrity, or the validity of the promotion? Comment below!
