Review: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial

Kiehls

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser, for All Skin Types

The Ultra Facial Cleanser is fragrance-free and water-soluble. I use this both when I wake up and before I go to bed.

STRENGTHS: I found this gel cleanser effective yet gentle. I purchased the 5 ounce bottle and it has lasted me a long time as only a small amount of this product goes a long way, making the price you pay worth it. This cleanser doesn’t dry out my skin nor does it leave it oily. My skin is somewhat sensitive and this product does not aggravate it. Although I don’t see that this product helps acne-prone skin, it doesn’t make it any worse. The Ultra Facial Cleanser contains apricot and olive oils, along with almond oil and vitamin E. These plant-based oils help to keep my skin feeling tight or dry after washing. This product doesn’t remove any natural oils in the skin.

WEAKNESSES: This cleanser does not help remove makeup (and especially eye makeup). I find that I need to use both eye and face makeup remover before cleansing my face with this cleanser. I recommend removing your makeup before using this cleanser. This product doesn’t do a lot when it comes to acne-prone skin other than keeping it cleansed.

I would repurchase this product.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner

The Ultra Facial Toner is a mild and hydrating toner with a milky-clear appearance and texture. I use this both when I wake up and before I go to bed, after I’ve removed my makeup and cleansed with the Ultra Facial Cleanser.

STRENGTHS: I find that this toner does a really nice job of soothing my skin after cleansing it. This product is odorless and good for sensitive skin. It helps to remove any excess makeup in a non-irritating way and at the same time helps to retain your skin’s natural oils. Unlike alcoholic toners, this toner leaves skin feeling hydrated. It contains apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, and vitamin E, much like the aforementioned cleanser. This toner does not over dry my skin.

WEAKNESSES: Although you only need to use a small amount of the product each time, it could be cheaper for what it is and does. I sometimes find that I need to go over my skin twice with this toner on a cotton pad in order to actually remove all of the excess makeup. The product mainly consists of water, slip agents, emollient, and preservatives that the small amounts of vitamins and plant oils don’t exactly compensate for.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer is an unscented face cream that easily absorbs into the skin and leaves it feeling hydrated and smooth. I use this product in both the morning and evenings and sometimes throughout the day as needed. I apply this to my face after using the Ultra Facial Cleanser and Ultra Facial Toner.

STRENGTHS: One of Kiehl’s most popular products, this moisturizer gets 4.5 stars from me. If you have normal to dry skin, this moisturizer will help cover your basic skincare needs in both the summer and winter months. Available in three sizes, a little goes a long way so the price of the product ends up being worth it. This moisturizer leaves my skin feeling hydrated and leaves my face with a smooth, soft texture for most of the day. I wear this product under makeup during the day; it works to help keep my makeup in place if I put it on when the cream is still somewhat wet (instead of caking on another layer of primer).

*I would like to note here that I initially sampled this product with the Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate which was amazing, to put it simply, and literally made my skin feel better in a matter of minutes. Unfortunately, this product was $58.00 for a 1.7 fl oz bottle (not that you need a lot of it for each use) and too pricey for me. That being said, the cream does a great job on its own, but if you are looking for more hydration, I thoroughly recommend the Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum.

WEAKNESSES: By the late evening, my skin may feel dried out from this product (depending on the weather, but especially in the winter months). The tiny amounts of plant oils and vitamins will do next to nothing for your skin, so don’t let that catch you if that’s the reason you’re purchasing. This product is nothing state-of-the-art, but more of a ‘it does the trick’ kind of product. Once again, the product is a little over-priced, but a little goes a long way.
